Album Info:£77m of public money wasted on this museum. See my Tripadvisor review extract: Riverside is an impressive looking building externally, but once inside you think "Oh dear, what went wrong?" There was only one real plus in that museum and that was Main Street 1895-1930, where a typical Glesga' cobbled street displayed some fantastic places like the Mitre Bar, Le Rendezvous Cafe, and the pawnbroker - all being original and noted Glasgow businesses. This must be a contender for an award within its own right, especially with the 1896-style Glasgow Subway station as home to one of the railway cars restored to original condition, this display was very well thought out, even down to the feeling of travelling on it! Then you come to the rest of the museum and wonder what kind of medication the museum team are on, because the side-effects are alarming! In the 1930-1960 and 1960-1980 streetscenes, the Subway station in the 1930s streetscene bore no resemblance to anything like the old Subway - at least at the old Kelvin Hall museum the old Merkland Street subway station was faithfully recreated, here at Riverside all that is in store along with over half of the Subways artifacts. Riverside Museum, hang your heads in shame. The museum prides itself with its largest exhibit - The South African steam locomotive, built in Glasgow in 1945 but again the museum team are clueless about displaying it properly. It should be a tribute to Glasgow's engineering history, NOT a platform for South Africa's previous politics. Like all other exhibits away from the 1895-1930 Main Street, it was surrounded by irrelevant information, irrelevant exhibits, and little space to photograph it. City of Glasgow - You invested a lot into this golden opportunity and you blew it! Hang your heads in shame and one day be prepared to answer lots of embarrasing questions to the Scottish Parliament.
